Abstract

From the angle of the utilization of tropical woods for energy purposes, the inflammability of 16 of them has been studied in order to list them in this respect and to determine the physical and chemical parameters influencing inflammability.
Okoumé and Arofy, together with Parasolier and Gmelina, are markedly more inflammable than Doussié, Azobé and Strombosia.
A highly inflammable wood is one which has a low lignin and water-extract content, is not very dense, has a high cavity, and possesses short, broad fibres.
