Abstract

Latin America accounts for 56% of the world's tropical forest potential, Asia 25% and Africa 19%. On the international market, Africa accounts for only 7% of tropical timber exports, while Asia accounts for 76%. As for Latin America, despite its immense reserves, it accounts for only 17% of the market, of which 6% or 7% goes to Brazil. The domestic market consists of two markets shared by 95% of operators. It alone absorbs 80% of Amazonian timber production.
