Among the many facies of dense and rainforests, mountain forests are best characterized by the physiognomic and floristic homologies that they share, testifying to the existence of similar ecological conditions at these altitudes. The most characteristic physiognomic link is the rich or exuberant epiphytic flora resulting from the very humid environments.
Floristically, on mountains higher than 1,100 m, one notes the predominance of a small number of species. Among the most constant may be mentioned: Allanblackia gabonensis, Cola verticillata, Beilschmiedia obscura, Leonardoxa africana, Garcinia polyantha, Myrianthus serratus, Uapaca acuminata, Carapa grandiflora, Santiria trimera, Aulacocalyx caudata and Szyzygium staudtii.
The aim of this article is to study the typical elements of submontane vegetation in the hills of Yaoundé and to define the groups of this vegetation on the basis of its most characteristic species.
