Abstract

Reunion is a volcanic island, which arose 3 millions of years ago. Two structures form its relief on the western fringe, where coral reefs have developed.
The island has a tropical climate tempered by the proximity of the ocean. As a consequence, Reunion is characterized by torrential hydrology, a very high erosion ratio and a specific type of vegetation.
