Abstract

Through a short description of the essential lines of grazing, animal and human factors, the author describes the new situation of animal production under the present drought context in the Sahel. From these findings, especially dramatic with regard to the excessive harshness of the rain and nutritional deficiency during 1984, strategic data for mastering the situation are suggested. These proposals take in due consideration the necessity of finding a way to adapt livestock and the grazing productions, to avoid the disappearance of the sahelian animal production and consequently, the elimination of the herders from the area.
