Abstract

In Burkina Faso, the efficiency against horse flies (Diptera: Tabanidae) of three different types of traps baited or not with a mixture of odour attractants (meta-cresol/octenol) was compared with two experiments during the dry season. Catches increased 1.5 to 3 fold when the traps were baited with odour attractants. The NG-2G trap and the screen-trap gave comparable results and were significantly more attractive than the F3 trap. The advancing dry season did not alter these findings. It was also noted that the trap catches had an opposite influence on the evolution of the number of the tabanids captured as a probably consequence of a trapping-effect.
