Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate piglets losses through pregnant sows slaughtering at the Yaounde abattoir between 1984 to 1986. The results show that 27 p. 100 of the sows examined after slaughtering were pregnant. They allow to average the economic losses as follows: 8.3 piglets from slaughtering pregnant sow, say 5000 young animals on the whole, slaughtered at the same time as their mothers every year. Appropriate measures are to be taken to prevent such heavy losses.
