Abstract

Forage intensification in Senegal is suggested using Panicum maximum in rotation with vegetable crops, in order to eradicate nematodes, to increase the organic matter of the soil and to get hay for urban sheep farming. For determining growth kinetics, the intensive utilisation of Panicum maximum was studied in relation to seasonal climatic variations. The economic effect of nitrogen fertilization was studied in terms of export and apparent utilisation of nitrogen and its dilution in the dry matter.
