The low-lands of the Adamawa Plateau are areas of high valued pastoral resources. Their optimal exploitation requires appropriate means. Unfortunately only a few studies have been conducted in these areas. Thus, the SODEPA is engaged in the research for techniques which would help to intensify their exploitation. In its Faro ranch, was carried out a comparative study of the germination and multiplication potentials of splinters of a stump and cuttings of Pennisetum purpureum Schumach. cv Kizozi, a forage species well adapted to this environment. The trial followed a completely randomized design with two seeding densities (0,66 x 0,64 m and 1 x 1 m). It was established on plots of 30 m2 (3 m x 10 m). Evaluation of the germination potential did not indicate any significant difference between the two forms of the plant. However, a significant difference (P < 0,05) within each form was observed on the production of suckers between the low and the high seeding density ones (54 and 30 suckers/plant, respectively). Furthermore, low seeding density plots resisted better to the dry season.
