Abstract

Four intensive feeding trials were carried out to investigate the growth capacity of the Mossi and Peul sheep of the Yatenga region. They also should allow to establish a diet for setting small units of lamb feeding among the farmers of the area. Daily live weight gains varied from 73 to 133 g, hot carcass weight from 9.2 to 15.7 kg. The average dry
matter intake was between 1 and 1.2 kg for a 25 kg L.W. sheep. The feed conversion (D.M. feed/kg gain) was comprized between 5.6 and 11 for a11 trials. It was varying from 7 to 8 for the ration with strawmolasses-cotton cake which was the most appropriate diet for the vulgarization to the farmers.
