The use of traps and screens impregnated with deltamethrin along the riverine forests of the Niger River reduced the apparent density of Glossina palpalis gambiensis population on one bank of the River by 98.70% after a three month trial period. The percentage of teneral flies increased dramatically from 3.75% before treatment to 47.05% and 73.68% one week and one month after treatment, respectively. Nulliparous females increased from 19.14% before the use of the toxic attractive system (TAS) to 87.50% one month after treatment. The control strategy proved to be simple, inexpensive and very efficient in restraining the tsetse population of the agropastoral zone of Tienfala-Baguinéda, East of Bamako, the capital.
