Abstract

Two experiments were carried out in dry season in Burkina Faso on the experimental area of Comoé (Sudano-Guinean zone), to evaluate the role of the position of a sachet dispenser in sampling Glossina tachinoides and Glossina morsitans submorsitans. This trial compared internal and external positions of bags containing either meta-cresol alone or a mixture of meta-cresol and octenol (proportions 3:1) in biconical traps. The position of the diffuser system did not seem to be a fundamental factor determining trap efficiency. The results vary with the season, the species and the sex of Glossina. The influence of the distance was not investigated.
