Abstract

Several surveys have been done from 1977 to 1980 and then in 1985 and 1986 in order to study the epidemiology of trematodosis in livestock in Kolda department. The study is composed by two parts:

Determination of the nature of trematodosis and assessment of the rate of infestation of the animals slaughtered in the slaughterhouse of Kolda. It was observed that the rate of infestation is lower in sheep than in cattle. In cattle the distomatosis is getting lower considerably when the schistosomiasis is getting higher.

Malacological study: localisation and identification of the molluscs in the different water-supply points and determination of their rote in the transmission of trematodosis.

Kolda, by its climate and rainfall, offers ideal conditions to maintain trematodosis diseases with a high risk of spread due to water resources management (dams, irrigations, etc.).
