Abstract

A case of canine botulism which occured in a military kennel is reported as a first record in Senegal. Closfridium boiulinum type D was the causative agent. The disease was characterized by a peracute evolution. Post-mortem examination mainlv revealed congestive and haemorrhaaic lesions. The strain involved was isolaied and the toxinogenic property of the toxine determined. The possible origin of the toxi-infection and the pecularities in the observed lesion are discussed. As a conclusion, the author considered why, up to now, Senegal only, in the whole of Western Africa, had allowed to study cases or outbreaks of botulism.
