Résumé

Cropping maize after tomato is an usual practice in western Burkina Faso on sandy hilly soils. As damage to crops due to parasitic nematodes is often neglected, we conducted an open-field trial by fumigating soils with 1-3 dichloro-propene (1-3 D) before planting rainfed maize. High and moderate dosages of the chemical controlled high nematode infestations (Helicotylenchus sp., Scutellonema sp., Pratylenchus sp. and Meloidogyne sp.) and limited outbreaks both on maize and subsequent tomato crops. In addition, crop yields were increased by 100% for maize and 68-86% for tomato.
