Abstract

The article describes practical aspects of heartwater diagnosis from brain samples. The difficulties in microscopic heartwater diagnosis are only due to the possible confusion between Cowdria ruminantium colonies and other corpuscles: pictures are jointed to show the different morphological aspects of Cowdria and to guide the beginner observer. A quick diagnostic technique, using orange acridine staining, is described.
