The findings of a study on ticks and blood parasites among sheep and goats of the Sahelian area in Senegal are reported. Systematic treatment of 40 sheep and 40 goats was performed over a 15 months period in view of determining population dynamics and for acute localization of settlement preferential sites of the different species
involved. Only Rhipicephalus e. evertsi and Hyalomma impeltatum were collected from these ruminants while, before the present draught period, were to be found : H. truncatum, H. m. rufipes, H. impressum, H. impeltatum, H. dromedarii, Rh. guihoni, Rh. sulcatus, Rh. muhsamae, Rh. e. evertsi, A. variegatum, Rh. cuspidatus, B. decoloratus. Together with this research, the blood parasites were searched for
by means of slides and splenectomy. Signs of infection by Theileria ovis were evident among sheep and goats and animals hosted elements similar to Ehrlichia ovina. Hematocrit values from apparently healthy subjects were investigated as well as the season changes of this
hematological parametre.
